Arlene Stein is a Professor of Sociology at Rutgers University who has her finger on the pulse of the transgender movement and is an expert on gender and sexual nonconformity in American culture. She is the author of four acclaimed books, including the Ruth Benedict Book Award winning The Stranger Next Door: The Story of a Small Community’s Battle Over Sex, Faith, and Civil Rights.
