Rick is a native Floridian and a graduate of Roosevelt University in Chicago. He earned a B.A. in English which he put to use as a field officer for the Internal Revenue Service. Inspired and encouraged by his wife, he decided his degree might also be useful in writing books and in 2004 he began writing full-time. Inspired by his ten year journey into the government’s bureaucratic netherworld, he wrote the memoir CONFESSIONS OF A TAX COLLECTOR (“humor, pathos, and insights into the human condition on almost every page” —Houston Chronicle). Since then he has launched three critically acclaimed series for young adults: THE EXTRAORDINARY ADVENTURES OF ALFRED KROPP, THE MONSTRUMOLOGIST and the #1 New York Times bestselling science-fiction thriller series, THE 5th WAVE, published by Putnam Books for Young Readers, with the movie version from Columbia Pictures/Sony, starring Chloe Grace Moretz, releasing in January 2016. Rick lives in Florida with his wife, Sandy.
