Maya Shanbhag Lang is the author of What We Carry, a New York Times Book Review Editors' Choice and a "Best Memoir of 2020" according to Amazon, Parade Magazine, PopSugar, and Times of India. She is also the author of The Sixteenth of June, named a Must-Read Novel by CBS and InStyle and long listed for the Center for Fiction First Novel Prize. In 2021, the American Civil Rights Museum named her a “Woman You Should Know.” Lang has appeared on television and radio, and been a guest speaker at numerous conferences, campuses, and literary events. She holds a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature and is the daughter of South Asian immigrants. She currently serves on The Authors Guild Council.
